7Gossakaito Archeological Site and Artifacts

A late Yayoi-period ironware production site, Gossakaito indicates that Iron Age culture, which played a key role in the establishment of Japan’s ancient state, was adopted here before being adopted in the territories around Kyoto. It is the site of a large-scale workshop, and numerous iron implements were unearthed here. The site tells of the production and spread of materials, and reveals how the Umi-no-tami helped the transmission of advanced technology on the Seto Inland Sea.
