17Hikino Archeological Site
A site where the Ama practiced their livelihood of earthenware salt-making around the middle of the Kofun period. The artifacts unearthed here allow us to trace the development from salt-making earthenware with a supporting base, to round-bottomed salt-making earthenware with better thermal efficiency. We can therefore picture the beginning of the salt-making that helped sustain the sovereign through mass production using improved earthenware.
