Oka-no-tani No. 1 Tomb: Stone coffin
The location of this kofun (tumulus) built high up overlooking the Harimanada Sea suggests a sea-borne link across the sea with the Harima region on the opposite shore. Tatsuyama-ishi stone was used for this iegata sekkan (house-shaped stone coffin) kept in a stone chamber, which still can be viewed by the public at Takataya Kahei Park in Sumoto City.

Oka-no-tani No. 1 Tomb: Stone coffin lid
A small Ksitigarbha statue watches over the stone coffin, his hands gently closed in prayer.
Before being identified as a stone coffin, it was revered as a box-shaped funerary urn made of stone (box for keeping valuables).

Access Take a highway bus from Sannomiya and get off at the terminus, Takataya Kahei Park.
Exit the Kobe-Awaji-Naruto Expressway at Hokudan IC, and go south approx. 18 km (approx. 30 mins.)
